Start with the contact map

List every packaging component that touches the food or could reasonably do so in the proposed use. A bottle body, cap, liner and seal may need separate consideration. An outer shipper holding sealed bottles has a different role from a box holding unwrapped food. The package drawing should make that intended arrangement clear.

FSSAI defines primary packaging by direct food contact and secondary packaging by its role around the primary pack without direct contact. Its framework requires suitability for the food and the filling, storage and transport conditions. It also requires food businesses to obtain conformity documentation from a NABL-accredited laboratory for relevant food-contact packaging. ^[food]

This regulatory description does not establish the scope or accreditation of a particular Super Smart Pack report. Ask which documents are available for the specified material and use. Your technical team should confirm that the evidence meets its approval requirements before the packaging is put into use.

Read reports as scoped evidence

Begin with the sample description. It should be possible to understand what was assessed and relate it to the material under discussion. Next, read the test method, conditions and reported result. If a document is unclear, request an explanation rather than treating a pass statement as approval for every possible application.

Overall migration and specific migration are distinct concepts within food-contact assessment: one concerns the overall transfer measured under a defined method, while the other concerns named substances. Do not use a generic reference to “migration tested” to infer that every relevant assessment has been completed. ^[food]

A raw-material specification is useful for identifying the declared input and its characteristics. It does not, by itself, describe every aspect of the finished bottle, closure or converting process. Keep the material information linked to the approved packaging drawing and the commercial order so the evidence remains understandable later.

If your organisation uses an approved-supplier checklist, share the relevant requirements early. It is more productive to clarify a missing field or a timing requirement before placing an order than to assume it will be provided after the material arrives. Ask specifically about any customer-mandated test method or document format.

This policy describes when documents are shared. It should not be interpreted as a statement that reports never need review, that every report covers every product, or that any packaging use is automatically approved. Read the scope of the actual documents supplied for your requirement.

When your internal process requires evidence before purchasing, tell the team that explicitly before committing to the transaction. Ask whether a suitable arrangement can be agreed. Recycled plastic bottles: separate content from suitability

“Recyclable” describes an end-of-life possibility; “recycled content” describes material used to make the article. Neither term alone establishes food-contact suitability. If a project requires recycled PET, specify the intended application and the evidence your buyer or customer expects.

FSSAI maintains packaging regulations and guidance relevant to recycled PET for food contact. Buyers should consult the current official framework and applicable approvals rather than assuming every recycled polymer source is acceptable. ^[rules]

Super Smart Pack’s recycled-PET supply capability has not been confirmed for this guide. Treat recycled plastic bottles as a technical enquiry. Do not write a recycled-content claim into an order, label or customer specification until the material and documentary basis have been agreed.

A practical enquiry separates three questions: can the proposed article be supplied, can the requested recycled-content information be substantiated, and is it appropriate for the intended product and market? Resolving only one of these does not resolve the other two.
